Spring Greetings from PICAZO Vineyards

Dear Friends and Family,

As the spring unfolds, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with the new offerings from PICAZO Vineyards! The much anticipated limited production 2009 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (now in the bottle) and the luscious 2006 Estate Merlot are ideal for all of life’s little celebrations.
We are thrilled to share that The Wine News placed our 2005 Estate Merlot in the top 125 outstanding wines of 2009, giving it 92 points in their winter issue. From the very beginning, our Merlot has shown amazing depth and character. It has demonstrated that Livermore can produce exceptionally stunning, world-class Merlot, if the site is right and the winery is serious. We do have a few remaining cases of this amazing vintage. Please call if you are interested in acquiring this exceptional wine before it’s gone.
PICAZO Vineyards is family owned and operated, focused on crafting extraordinary Bordeaux varietals that express the best of their terroir. Your 2006 Estate Merlot allocation is now available and it delivers the same complexity, concentration and quality as its older siblings.

Winter to Spring Updates by Mark Clarin
I am excited to report significant rainfall this winter. We also had our once per decade snowfall in December that melted by noon but was fun to witness. This season’s rain is revitalizing our soils and flushing them out. To facilitate this, we ripped every other row to 18 inches in order to allow more water to be retained rather than running off. Our cover crop is starting to show up from last year as well. As we move rapidly toward spring, I anticipate a nice start to the growing season. We should be able to hold off on irrigation for quite awhile.  As I type this, I am still waiting for bud break and the kick off to our next season.
We just finished bottling our first ever Sauvignon Blanc the first week of March and our 2007 Reserve Merlot. It is a great feeling to get the wine to bottle. The intense moments in a wine’s life are the day of picking and the day of bottling. Once they are in the bottle all that’s left is to enjoy them.

2009 Sauvignon Blanc- Beautiful straw color, the wine offers essences of citrus, melon, fig and a glimpse of jalapeño in the aromatics. The mouth-feel is rich with textures of grapefruit, green apple, honey suckle and figs. The finish has mineral qualities that offer excellent depth. $32

2006 Merlot - opens with a flood of crimson. The bouquet offers essences of spicy clove, anise, coconut and black cherries on the nose. The black cherry comes through in a concentrated wave of flavor along with hints of vanilla, coffee, black raspberry and graphite. The luscious and fine tannins are maturing quite well and they linger on exquisitely. $80

Our 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of the southeast Napa Valley. The wine opens with a deep garnet hue. The aromatics offer a mélange of Spicy Clove, Black Currant, and Tobacco. The flavors are spiced Berry, with Black Currant, Vanilla, Cloves and Earth. The rich tannins provide a full mouth feel and length to this excellent Inaugural offering. This wine will be released in the fall of 2010. $125
